The nature and you: participatory mapping survey launched in Grenoble

The Reconnect teams in Grenoble and Göttingen have developed an online survey based on preliminary interviews with local stakeholders. The survey asks participants to map their outdoor activities and explain why they enjoy visiting protected natural areas and their surroundings. In order to understand how activities and values of specific places are related to the connections with nature in general, it also looks at individuals’ overall  relationship with nature.

The survey additionally proposes that respondents map measures that can enhance ecological connectivity and biodiversity in the area. This information can be useful for land use management and planning processes, and is a fundamental step towards achieving a balanced decision-making process regarding biodiversity conservation. The survey was recently launched in Grenoble by the Alpine Ecology Lab (LECA), with Göttingen to follow in the spring. LECA will soon launch a survey in the Grenoble region on equity and access to natural sites.
