RECONNECT team to host a session on “Biodiversity conservation in sync with its surroundings” at PECS-3 Conference

August 8th, 2024. Stockholm, Sweden

This upcoming August 14th, the RECONNECT team will host a symposium at the PECS-3 conference in Montreal, Canada. The symposium present and discuss a novel take on how to situate and understand biodiversity conservation efforts, especially protected areas, as interdependent with the social-ecological context they are embedded in. Additionally, the symposium will address the nature and implications of fragmentation and being ‘connected’ for protected areas situated in spatial and temporal change.

The session will explore different disciplinary perspectives of what being connected might mean for biodiversity protection, including individual-nature relationships, social psychology, sectoral alignment, ecological flows, and spatial-temporal scales.

The discussions will focus on global realities and the diverse settings where conservation action is needed. Starting of with short presentations the session will then initiate an open discussion about how to (re)connect, align and enhance biodiversity promotion.
